Emily Valerius, MBA

Executive Director

Emily has over 20 years of experience managing both non-profit and for-profit organizations, with a strong focus on medical association management. Her expertise spans board governance, administration, operations, and finance and accounting. Since joining the ABHRS in 2008, she has held numerous key roles, including membership coordinator, administrative manager, and project manager, showcasing her versatility and commitment.

Emily takes great pride in her work, and her leadership skills are evident in her passion for excellence and her dedication to organizational success. She earned her BA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and her MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in Chicago, further solidifying her strategic and managerial acumen

Colette Elbaor

Membership & Office Manager

Colette joined the ABHRS team in 2015 with great enthusiasm. She brings her experience working 30-plus years in business administration with exceptional organizational skills. Colette is always willing to take on new tasks and spearhead special projects. Her devotion and sense of humor are true assets to our team and diplomates.

Staci Finch

Project Manager

Staci joined the ABHRS team in early 2024, bringing a wealth of experience in administration and project management. She’s been serving as the Administrator and Project Manager for the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery for over nine years, where she developed her skills in overseeing complex projects.
With over 20 years in the real estate industry, Staci possesses exceptional communication and negotiation abilities, enabling her to navigate various professional environments effectively. Her unique blend of expertise positions her to make a significant impact with the ABHRS, where she is dedicated to supporting and advancing the organization's mission.

Monica Fritz

Project Coordinator

Monica joined the ABHRS team in 2020. She comes with previous experience working with the Homeowners Association Boards. She has over 25+ years of business administration experience and has great attention to detail and organization. She is always willing to learn new skills.

Michael W. Brady, Attorney at Law

Legal Counsel

Mike joined the ABHRS in 2022 as legal counsel, bringing broad experience in corporate governance, real estate, and contract negotiations. He currently serves as legal counsel to multiple medical boards and is the founder and principal attorney of his own law firm.

Previously, Mike was in-house counsel for the Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation, managing senior housing real estate transactions and corporate governance, and for Strategic Technology Associates International, LLC, handling corporate restructuring, contracts, and HR matters. He earned his law degree from The John Marshall Law School in 2008, where he was Senior Law Clerk for its Fair Housing Clinic

Peter B. Canalia, J.D.

Peter retired as Executive Director of the ABHRS in 2022 and continued serving as a Consultant in 2023. He had been with the organization since its inception in 1996, demonstrating unwavering commitment by actively participating in numerous board meetings, annual examinations, and ISHRS events over the years.

A 1970 graduate of John Marshall Law School with a Juris Doctorate, Peter practiced law in the greater Chicago area for over 45 years, earning the respect of his peers for his vast experience and legal expertise, particularly in board matters. His exceptional attention to detail was evident not only in his work but also in his snappy appearance.
